Omar Galliani Curriculum

Galliani studied at the Academy of Fine Arts of Bologna and teaches painting at the Academy of Fine Arts of Carrara (Italy). He participated to three editions of the Venice Biennale (in1982/84/86). In 1982 he was invited to take part to the São Paulo Biennal, to the 12th Biennal of Paris and the Biennal of Tokyo.

He exhibited at the Modern Art Museums of Tokyo, Kyoto, Nagasaky and Hiroshima, at the Hayward Gallery in London and in two editions of the Quadrennial of Rome, at the Gallery of Modern Art in Bologna, the National Gallery of Modern Art in Rome and at the Frankfurter Kunstverein in Frankfurt, Berlin. In the nineties he was invited by the Italian Parliament to exhibit his works at the Scottsdale Centre for the Arts in Arizona, at the Marian Locks Gallery in Philadelphia (U.S.A.) and he presented his Feminine Countenance at the New York University. In 2000 the exhibition Aurea was held at the Museum of the Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing. He also exhibited at Palazzo delle Stelline in Milan, at the Galleria Civica of Modena, at the Museum of Modern Art of Budapest, at Palacio Foz in Lisbon, at PAC in Milan. In 2003 the artist was invited to participate to the Biennal of Prague and to the first Beijing Biennal, where he was awarded the first prize.

In 2005, at the State Archives of Turin, Galliani held the exhibition Grande Disegno Italiano. In the same year, the solo exhibition Nuove Anatomie was organised at Palazzo Magnani in Reggio Emilia. Also in 2005 the Museum of Contemporary Art of Guadalajara hosted his solo exhibition Nuovi Fiori Nuovi Santi.  Furthermore, Spazio Mazzotta in Milan exhibited his La Figlia era Nuda.

At the beginning of 2006 and through all 2007, his solo exhibition Disegno Italiano was hosted by the most important Museums of Contemporary Art in China in Beijing, Shanghai, Chengdu, Jinan, Xian, Wuhan, Hangzhou, Ningbo, Nanchino, Dalian, Tientsin and at the Schoeni Gallery in Hong Kong.Also in 2006 the University and Museum of Caracas hosted his solo exhibition Disegnarsi, which was moved in April 2007 to the Museum Hassan of Rabat. His Grande Disegno Italiano was presented to the Permanente in Milan during the exhibition La Bellezza and subsequently at the Palazzo della Regione in Verona, during the exhibition Il Settimo Splendore.

In 2007, during the 52nd Venice Biennale, the prestigious Querini Stampaglia Foundation hosted the exhibition Tra Oriente e Occidente, Omar Galliani e il Grande Disegno Italiano in Cina. The event was joint by the Chinese Artists Association and the Museums of Omar Gallianis China Tour in Ningbo, Dalian, Xian, Hangzou, Jinan, Chengdu and Wuhan gave their collaboration to the exhibition. In 2008 the Uffizis Cabinet of Drawings and Prints exhibited and bought Notturno. In 2009 the K35 Gallery in Moscow opened his solo exhibition and the Michetti Foundation in Francavilla al Mare dedicated to him a retrospective exhibition. Also in 2009 the Shangeie Gallery in Shanghai inaugurated Lontano da Xian.

In the same year, the Italian Institute of Culture in Vienna hosted his Nel Segno del Correggio. At Villa Bottini, in Lucca and at the Archaeological Museum in Palazzo Guigini, Omar Galliani presented  Dalle stanze dei miei Disegni and  in Venice  he presented Détournement at the Antico Ospizio di San Lorenzo(collateral event of the 53rd Biennale of Venice) andSanta Apollonia, Omar Galliani e qualche dente di Andy Warhol at the Museo Diocesano.

In 2010, the Italian Institute of Culture in Bogotá exhibited 21 Debuois Para una Noche en Bogotá and in the same year, the Museum Borges in Buenos Aires hosted the exhibition Nocturno, which was also moved to the Museum of Contemporary Art in San Juan and in Rosario. The India Theatre in Rome presented Il Disegno in Scena and in Lucca the L.u.c.c.a. Museum exhibited his site-specific work Le Pareti Di-Segno. In 2011 Omar Galliani opened the exhibitions Diario Cinese both at the Cultural Centre of the Latin Quarter in Tianjin and at the Institute of Culture in Beijing. He also inaugurated theCrosscuennts, Italia-Nigeria at the Museum of Modern Art in Lagos. The Museum Diocesano in Padua (Italy) exhibited hisDal Codice degli Angeli.
