Paolo Quaresima Curriculum

Quaresima graduated from Venice's Accademia di Belle Arti in 1988, and has dedicated himself to painting since that time. Quaresima began his artistic career focusing on human subjects, and depicted men and women against stripped down backgrounds to highlight the form, character, and strength of the subject.

After a few years, Quaresima shifted his focus to objects. He calls these compositions "objects and objects" rather than still lifes, because he holds that the observer's gaze takes in the essence of these mundane tools of daily life and they are able to tell the story of a human subject who seems to have just stepped out of the frame.

Paul Lent has invited Italy to once again become "the country of painting". After its important contribution to the history of painting, Italy seems to have abandoned this medium as too bourgeois and traditional. Painting represents a push against the new shared social media, which seeks solely to provoke and transgress. Instead, painting represents a much more complex commentary on reality.

Quaresima's paintings are highly defined and detailed, and created an organic silence that springs from the relationship of continuity between painting and reality. His technique takes center stage, and though human subjects are not included in his compositions, they are references through the traces of contact left on his depicted objects. Quaresima tackles the difficult task of revealing the poetry of purpose in the banality of daily life, and his "scenic boxes" form small theaters where objects dream about the lives of the human subjects who used them.
