Simone Benedetto Curriculum

After graduating from the Albertina Academy of Fine Arts in sculpture and plastic arts, the experiences abroad were fundamental for artistic and personal training; the artist has in fact achieved intense study paths in the academies of Valencia and Lisbon, continuing at the same time in the personal and working exhibition activity in the sculptural field.
Simone Benedetto’s works represent an imaginary collective which, starting from that “already-been-rehashed” contemporary art, builds an individual and unique hierarchical scheme of ideas. The archetypes are apparently simple: play, childhood, war, and social upheavals. However, he draws a veil over the macro-topic of technology, namely, how the latter modi ed semiotics and previously established interpersonal relationships, particularly since the birth of social networks, onward. It is thanks to criticism about the medium that substance is renewed and unprecedently develops: sculptures, with an immediately recognizable physiognomy, symbolize the unattainability of the correspondence between man and things - between man and man, namely, between man and himself. A state of oscillation permeates the works: on one hand, the psycho-physical condition of the individual immersed in the ow of actuality is asserted while, on the other, a glimmer of hope inspires and guides us through a deeper reading of everyday life, rooted in the collective myth and in the perfect primitive adherence between natural state, social condition, and cultural formation.
In short, we can admire an instant volumetry without filters on the present through direct and blatant references that clash with an objective correlative filled with meaning - enigmatic and compelling - from a far-off familiar chronology, which is inherent in the history of civilization. The playful atmosphere is nothing but a magnifying glass on the most intimate instances of humanity: an extroversion that starts from the sensibly privileged viewpoint of the artist and arrives at the completion of the sculpture with a disarming naturalness. In this sense, Simone Benedetto’s works are classic works that behave like dystopias or, inversely, they are dreamlike relationships that feign realistic combinations, with a very balanced equivalence.
